WHEREAS it is imperative to retain the OPP Detachment in Noelville to continue to provide safe communities in the Sudbury- East area being the municipalities of French River, St. Charles, Killarney and Markstay-Warren and Dokis First Nations; and WHEREAS all residents and visitors must have a sense of security knowing that when needed, OPP officers are available in less than 30 minutes; and WHEREAS the closure of the Noelville Detachment would create severe hardship to all its residents and visitors in all four municipalities and Dokis First Nations; and WHEREAS residents and visitors in Sudbury-East deserve and expect equitable access to a reliable, timely and efficient police response. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Municipality of French River support the petition to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to direct the Ministry of the Solicitor General and the Minutes of the REGULAR COUNCIL Meeting of February 15, 2023 Page 2 of 5 Ontario Provincial Police to continue in having the Ontario Provincial Police officers report to an operational detachment located in Noelville, Ontario.
